The Houthis ⁠- the Iran-backed group in Yemen, said on Thursday they had carried ⁠out ⁠a military operation targeting two Saudi ⁠oil tankers, identified as ENCELA and ⁠LAYLIA, saying the vessels violated ‌the ‌naval blockade imposed ‌by the group on Monday. The Houthis’ announcement prompted the Saudi-led coalition to declare that it ⁠would respond “firmly”, in a move that threatens to disrupt global ‌energy supplies beyond the Gulf. The Saudi authorities have not immediately confirmed the strike.
